Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS) |
Levi Quinn asked:
Nitrous oxide, also referred to as laughing gas, is a type of chemical compound with a chemical formula of N2O. When nitrous oxide is placed at room temperature, it forms a colorless and non-flammable type of gas, and has a pleasant, sweet taste and odor that is slightly sweet. It is mostly used in density and surgery because of its analgesic and aesthetic effects. It adapted the name laughing gas because of its euphoric effects that come about after inhaling it. This property has made the gas be used recreationally as an inhalant type of drug. In addition, nitrous oxide can be used as oxidizer especially in motor racing and in rocketry for the sole purpose of increasing power output in most engines. The gas is also created in the bush fires.
The first evidence of the use of the nitrous oxide was made during the Second World War. At that time, it acted as the enhancement system for fighter aircrafts. In the first technology, the planes that were mainly used for fighting had mechanisms that made the fighter planes get additional acceleration especially when it was nearing an enemy target for it to be able to have a better chance to hit the enemy.
The laughing gas is known to react with the ozone and is considered to be the major regulator for the stratospheric ozone that occurs naturally. It is also the main gas in green houses. It has two hundred and eight more times impact in each unit weight as compared to carbon dioxide. This technology was needed at the high altitudes especially in cases where oxygen content in the air began to lower. Today, the laughing gas still is an enhancement kit for the engine but the only difference is that it is used in racing cars. This was first seen in the racing cars from NASCAR. From then henceforth, it gained popularity especially with the underground racing cars. Fuel is normally combusted in air and is able to ignite to produce energy that is needed to run a vehicle.
The main reason for nitrous oxide to be used in the racing cars is because it is able to boost the combustion process and thereby enhance engine power. Pure oxygen produces a lot of energy when it is present in the engine and can make the engine explode. To rectify this, one can mix air and fuel and then combust it to the engine. Injecting Nitrogen oxide into the engine system will be able to break it into oxygen and nitrogen and thereby offering pure oxygen that is required to be able to burn fuel efficiently and this action in turn adds power to the vehicle.
Nitrogen is inert in nature and has no reaction with the other atoms. Instead, it creates a cooling effect that is able to take much of the generated heat due to combustion of the pure oxygen. There are 2 different types of the nitrous systems that are used today namely: Nitrous Oxide Wet Injection and Nitrous Oxide Dry Injection. Nitrous Oxide systems have various uses ranging from aiding in car fuel combustion to hospitals where it offers analgesic and aesthetic effects.
